Please excuse me while I indulge in some Alma Mater nostlagia. Two days ago I tweeted and Facebooked this Royal Wedding themed, Lady Gaga inspired music video by one of the A Capella bands from St Andrews (it was at 17,000 views then - 24 hours later it’s at 77,000!). But that wasn’t enough to truly explain why this video is so awesome to me :)
Kudos to the guy for getting pushed off the pier into the icy North Sea. I know from personal experience that while it’s sort of exhilarating, it’s also extremely unpleasant.
The video starts off with a copy of The Saint, the student newspaper where this whole journalism thing all started for me (well, sort of. I was too busy trying to get the paper out of 10,000 British pounds of debt to work on the content side of things. I guess it was a telling sign of where I would end up even after journalism school, ha!)
I’m pretty sure “The Other Guys” A Capella group was (co?)founded by my academic brother Andrew Ogletree :) (And here’s a little explainer about what academic families are)
Ahhh, Facebook: I remember when it 1st launched in St Andrews in February 2005, suddenly all those computers on the central area were ever used for was for Facebook, exactly where they shot that scene (interesting to see the library still looks like it did in the 70s…)
And so many other, more iconic St Andrews locations that bring back memories, like the castle and cathedral ruins we used to crash at night or the beach we used to have bonfires at…
